Welcome to the Grosse Pointe Friends & Neighbors Club!
Our club was founded in the 1970s as the Welcome Wagon but has evolved over the years to include programs and events that encourage members to return year after year. We are committed to providing a sense of community and a network of social contacts through our activities. The club is open to all residents of the Grosse Pointe School District. We especially welcome residents new to the area! GPFNC is social club with the sole purpose of providing women in the Grosse Pointe area with opportunities to get to know each other and have fun! It doesn’t matter how long you’ve lived in Grosse Pointe or what stage of life you’re in – if you want to meet new people and discover things you never knew about your hometown then this club is for you!
General membership meetings are held on the 1st Thursday of each month from September to May at the Country Club of Detroit. Club business is shared and guest speakers from local venues provide fascinating lectures while we dine. The club also offers opportunities to join book discussions, gourmet groups, craft get-togethers, and luncheons at area restaurants.
Grosse Pointe Friends and Neighbors Club Welcome back Ladies! Four years ago this month my family moved to Grosse Pointe from Ohio. I spent my first year here getting the children settled in their schools and sorting out a house that needed a lot of attention. I met most of my neighbors and they were all very nice and welcoming but I noticed a funny thing about Grosse Pointers. Because so many people in Grosse Pointe are life long residents they are not necessarily looking for new friends. They have all of their old friends right here, as well as family. This is one of the things that gives the area a real sense of community but it also makes is hard on newcomers. That is why our club, Grosse Pointe Friends & Neighbors, is so important. At the beginning of my second year in Grosse Pointe, Laura Larson invited me to the Club’s kick-off luncheon and I am so grateful that she did. I have enjoyed getting to know many of you and have volunteered on the Board these last two years. As I start my term as President I hope we continue to provide a warm welcome to newcomers as well as a place to nourish old friendships; a place to “bloom where you are planted”. Paula
From the President Hello Ladies! Well, the weather is still beautiful but there is definitely change in the air.
It’s a little drier and a little crisper. There is change in the air at home too
as things settle back into a routine after the glorious spontaneity of summer.
The Club has settled back into a routine as well. We had a wonderful turnout
for the Kick-Off Luncheon and it was a lovely afternoon; good food and
even better conversation with friends not seen through the summer. I look
forward to seeing many of you at the myriad of events scheduled for this month;
whether it be our first ever monthly luncheon at The Country Club of Detroit
with a presentation on the Hudson’s Department Store, a Salad Lunch, Discover Detroit,
or all of the above! There is something for everyone in GPF&N club.
